Mengqi Yao was born in Hunan, China. Under the influence of her parents who both have a solid academic background in the field of electrical engineering, her initial interest in Electrical Engineering was ignited at very young age. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Electric Power Engineering & Automation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2014, and in 2016 she received her Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power & Energy) from the University of Michigan. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at U of M, working with Prof. Johanna Mathieu. Her research interests include demand response effect on power system stability and development of methods to evaluate and improve electric power system stability margins.
